"Design research between tech and craft for a sustainable future"
Bureau Baggerman was founded by Michelle Baggerman in 2010.
Why design research? I am a curious designer. I take an intuitive and inquisitive approach and see every project as a chance for exploration. Combined with a growing unease about adding more 'stuff' to the world, I decided to focus not on product design but instead apply my skills to generate knowledge through design research. I focus on increasing sustainability by reframing and reinventing existing and traditional materials and practices and linking them to new technology, methods and materials in innovative ways. My research results in new knowledge and inspiring prototypes which demonstrate the potential of sustainable materials and production techniques, especially in textiles. The results are broadly shared in exhibitions, publications, presentations, lectures and importantly: education. This site is a portfolio of projects that demonstrate my approach to design and research, but it's far from all I do. A more comprehensive overview of my professional activities can be found on my LinkedIn profile.
